What belongs in a field service report?
A useful report connects the reason for the visit to the findings, work, materials and outcome. Record enough detail for another person to understand the next action without calling the technician. Include before-and-after photographs when they explain an otherwise ambiguous finding.
Service report versus work order
A work order usually describes requested work. A service report records what actually happened. Keep the original request and reference it from the finished report, especially when the scope changed on site.
